Long Weekend Lanna Cultural Journey

Tour Overview

  • Duration: 3 Days / 2 Nights
  • Group Size: 2–6
  • Destination: Chiang Mai
  • Activity Type: Long Weekend Journey

Most travel programmes try to show you a lot. This one follows a single thread across three days and three different kinds of place.

The thread is water and generosity — the Lanna practice of offering food and shelter to travellers, which was practical religion rather than hospitality industry.

Day one is the city: a temple with working craftsmen restoring murals, and the rooms where they sleep while they work. You will be shown how a craft is passed between generations in the same building.

Day two goes downstream to a river village where that same generosity still operates, and where being fed is not optional.

Day three closes the loop in a working household that grows most of what it eats. Between the three days, the same idea appears in a temple, a village and a kitchen.

Scheduled Travel Plan

  • 01
    DAY

The temple workshop in the city

Late Morning Begin at a temple where craftsmen restore murals. Watch the slow work up close and understand why it takes years. Afternoon The painters' quarters. Tea, conversation about how the craft is taught, and what it means to be the person who continues it. Evening Dinner near the temple, then early night. Night City hotel or guesthouse. TBD — accommodation is not part of the community homestay arrangement for this program.
  • 02
    DAY

    Downstream to the river village

Morning Travel downstream to a river village. Late Morning Walk the settlement with a host. The same generosity seen at the temple turns out to be ordinary here. Afternoon Work alongside the household for a few hours — cooking, mending, whatever is needed. Evening Dinner, which will be large. TBD — the village and household must be confirmed. Night Homestay one, river village.
  • 03
    DAY

A household that grows its own food

Morning Leave the village for a farm household where most of the food is grown on site. Late Morning Walk the garden and orchard with the family. See what feeds a household rather than a market. Afternoon Final meal together, then return transport to Chiang Mai. TBD — the farm, departure time and any city accommodation must be confirmed.
