Mountain Community Homestay
Tour Overview
- Duration: 2 Days / 1 Nights
- Group Size: 2–6
- Destination: Chiang Mai
- Activity Type: Short Stay
The plain below Chiang Mai is flat and busy. Twenty minutes up the mountain, the road narrows, the temperature drops, and the way people describe distance changes from kilometres to how far you can walk.
You stay in a family home in a village on the slope. The family farms, and the household is built around the agricultural year rather than the calendar.
The most useful thing about a homestay here is not the room. It is that the schedule belongs to someone else. Breakfast happens when breakfast happens. You will not be eating at a set time because nobody is running a kitchen for you.
There is work if you want it, and none if you do not. Harvesting, carrying water, splitting firewood, sitting with a grandmother who has no particular intention of teaching you anything.
Evenings are long and quiet. This is not a programme with an activity schedule after dark. It is the part people remember.

DAY01
Up the mountain and into the household
Morning Travel up from the city. The road gets narrower and the valley opens out below. Late Morning Arrive at the village. Meet the host family, see the rooms, and be shown how the house works: where water comes from, where firewood is kept, what you are and are not allowed to do in the yard. Afternoon Easy orientation around the village and the fields. Nothing strenuous. Evening Dinner with the family from whatever the garden and the kitchen have. Expect rice, a curry, and something pickled. Night Homestay. Bedrooms are simple and shared where the house is small. Ask for what you need; nobody will offer it unprompted. -
DAY02
Farm day, forest walk and a second evening
Morning Join the family on whatever the season requires. In one month that is planting, in another it is weeding, in another it is harvest. Do not expect a fixed task. Late Morning Walk into the forest above the village with a host. Medicinal plants, bamboo, water. The forest here is a pantry and a pharmacy, and this walk explains why. Afternoon Rest, or help with cooking if you offered. Preparation for the evening meal happens earlier than you expect. Evening Dinner with the family, then as long an evening as you want. Night Homestay, second night.
